Typically, many small to medium sized businesses are founded by one person or a small group of people because of a talent, skill, knowledge, training or discovery. As the business grows it is quickly discovered that corporate skills and processes are also required. These can be HR, financial or organisational.
The most essential skill is for the business owner to personally grow and develop skills to complement the original basis the company was created upon. This will ensure the business can move to the next levels and survive after all the hard work in setting up. This can include boardroom skills, team-building, marketing to handling investors for example. Global corporate governance responsibilities are increasing every day.
So how do you - the business owner or executive personally grow? You continue to learn. You need your own Personal Coach in your corner – working only for you. Presidents and Prime Ministers do not suddenly inherit the personal skills with their office. They are trained and coached by a team behind them. Great sports players begin with a talent and their talent and how they manage themselves is developed for success by a team of coaches. Actors and entertainers are all coached somewhere along the path to the top.
Your Coach or Non-Executive Director will be the lowest outlay for the most important member of your team. Giving you the personal skills and knowledge to develop your behaviour and to grow your business life - for the success you want for yourself.
